I'm sure you know people who are nice, fun to be with, and share your interests. They might be in your class or hang out with your other friends. You enjoy being with them. Are these true friend? Maybe someday, but for now, they're more like acquaintances. A true friend is so much more, and extremely rare; if you're lucky, you'll have three or four real friends in your entire life. That doesn't sound like a lot, but if you understand the real meaning of friendship, you'll realize how lucky you'll be to have those few.
What makes real friends stand out? They are there for you, right or wrong, good and bad. They give you the truth when others can't or won't. You can count on them for anything, anytime, throughout a lifetime of trust and respect. Can you say that about everyone you hang out with today? Probably not, but you have to start somewhere.
Choose your friends very carefully. Real friends don't drag you down, judge you, push you around, or make you feel bad. They support your decisions and your values and stand by you when you need support. Anyone who can't do these things for you isn't worthy of being your friend.[/CELL][/TABLETEXT]
