2007Abstract: This modest study aims to shed light on the imaginary portrayal of Shakespeare's tragic heroes presented in his three most popular tragedies – Hamlet (1602), Othello (1604) and Macbeth (1605). However, this thesis has been divided into three main chapters besides the introduction and conclusion. Through this division, I have endeavored to capture the struggle, movement and behaviour of each hero within his own play in separate chapter. The introduction of this thesis has been devoted to reflect briefly the author's life and his contributions to literature. Briefly, I have clarified the beginning and the meaning of tragedy as a tale of suffering ending with the death of the hero. It gives the reader hints to have enough background to understand tragic heroes. The second chapter mainly deals with Hamlet. It shows the causes of his tragedy. Then it explains the nature of his character and how it is affected by the different events he encounters. The same scheme has been applied to Othello in the third chapter. He is a victim of Iago who plots a revengeful plan because he is not promoted by Othello. In the fourth chapter, the same manner has been followed to express Macbeth's tragedy. Like Hamlet and Othello, Macbeth is the victim of both the external and internal factors. In the conclusion, I have explained how Shakespeare persuades us that Hamlet is a victim of his thought and feeling Othello a victim of jealousy and extremely trustful nature, and Macbeth the victim of ambition. The thesis is entailed by Bibliography. آخر تعديل بواسطة د. عبد الله بن محمود ، 16/May/2010 الساعة 07:58 PM |
