This study has been divided into seven chapters . The area of this study is declarative sentences in English and Arabic. The first chapter is an introductory chapter in which some principles of contrastive analysis are discussed. It presents some problems Arab learners of English face. The cause of these problems is the differences between Arabic and English. Also, this chapter presents briefly an outline, the aims and significance of Contrastive Analysis. The second chapter introduces the aim and the scope of this study. The aims of this study are to compare and contrast English and Arabic in the area of Declarative sentences, and to give some pedagogical implications. The scope of this study is restricted to declarative sentences in English and Arabic. The third chapter is a survey of English declarative sentences. It deals with the types of sentences, the elements of a sentence , the syntactic functions of clause elements, then clause structure. It also deals with S-V concord and negation. The fourth chapter deals declarative sentences in Arabic. It presents types of sentences in Arabic, the elements of a sentence, the structure of declarative sentences, S-V concord and negation. The fifth chapter presents the similarities and dissimilarities of declarative sentences in English and Arabic. The sixth chapter forms the pedagogical implications of the study. This chapter introduces the idea of teaching the structures of English declarative sentences to native speakers of Arabic. The identical structures are introduced as the first step , the similar structures are introduced and finally the dissimilar structures are presented . This chapter gives some exercises based on this idea. The seven chapter summarizes the previous six chapters.
